St Machar Academy is one of the 'newest' of Aberdeen's six year comprehensive Schools. It was established in 1988 as the result of the merger of Hilton and Powis Academies.

In August 2002 St Machar Academy then merged with Linksfield Academy.

The school occupies the site of the former Powis Academy on St Machar Drive and is situated close to the historical sites of King's College (Aberdeen University) and St Machar's Cathedral.
